Hunan Tobacco Industry’s Consolidation Efforts Paying Off

The Hunan tobacco industry’s consolidation and restructuring efforts are paying off. From January to September 2007, China Tobacco Hunan Industrial Corporation posted RMB 23.2 billion in accumulated pre-tax profit, a year-on-year increase of RMB 5.8 billion, or 33.5 per cent. For the first nine months of this year, the company’s manufacturing cost per case of cigarettes was reduced by 0.71 per cent. In a word, the province’s tobacco industry has achieved outstanding economic outcomes by accelerating management transition and promoting brand-based technology innovation after the consolidation.
