The State Environmental Protection Administration of China (SEPA) has recently released a planning guideline of China’s major ecological function preservation zones, expressly stating that the ecological function preservation zone is development-restrictive, where high-pollution, high energy-consuming and high material-consuming industries shall be confined. The establishment of major ecological function preservation zones will help prevent and mitigate natural disasters, coordinate basin and regional ecological protection and economic as well as social development.
