Migrant workers’ children studying in Beijing attend blessing-themed sports meeting

More than 500 children of migrant workers studying in 72 schools in Beijing gathered at Beijing National Day School on May 25 to pray for the quake-hit people, and attended a sports meeting. Carcinogen found in children garments in Foshan

The Foshan Administration for Industry & Commerce launched a quality monitoring program for children garments in the Foshan market. The administration investigated 90 batches of children garment in major supermarkets, and found that some children garments contain several carcinogens. For the 19 batches of garments produced by Foshan enterprises, less than two percent can meet relevant quality standards.

Jiangsu has 20 new modern service industry cluster districts

Joint venture between Delphi Automotive Systems and LingYun Industrial in Wuhu to start operation

With a total investment of US$60 million by two foremost parts makers--Delphi Automotive Systems Singapore Pte Ltd Hebei LingYun Industrial Group Co., Ltd, Saginaw Lingyun Drive Shaft (Wuhu) Co., Ltd was recently completed and will be put into operation next month. Saginaw Lingyun Drive Shaft (Wuhu) will focus on the production and sale of auto parts including drive systems, with international advanced technology and equipment. The Wuhu firm will conduct a deeper cooperation with Chery to help promote the development of the auto company.

Caofeidian Industrial Area will establish 30 bn yuan industry fund

Caofeidian Industrial Area, Tangshan, Hebei provicne is planning to establish a 30 billion yuan industry fund, which is expected to be jointly invested by large enterprises and the city’s government. The industry area will also set up Caofeidian Holding Co., Ltd, which will go public in the near future. FMG ’s 170,000-ton iron ore arrives at Majishan Port

A freighter carrying 170,000-ton iron ore of Australia’s FMG called at Majishan Port on May 29, marking a new phase of the cooperation between Baosteel Group and FMG.  Baosteel reached a ten-year collaboration agreement with FMG., one of the fastest growing listed companies in Australia, in February 2007, according to which FMG will provide 20 million tons of iron ore to Baosteel per year. A spokesperson for Baosteel Group said the cooperation not only helps promote both companies’ development, but will be of great significance to the social and economic development of China and Australia.

According to the report, there are indeed some problems in the company’s internal management, including high work injury rate and overtime work. However, the “sweatshop” conclusion was unfair, the report said. Ten businesses take out insurance policies of China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation Liaoning Branch

The Liaoning Branch of China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation, China’s only policy-based credit insurer, said that ten businesses had taken out an insurance policy of the branch as of 20 May 2008. In addition to risk control, those customers can also receive financial support through the fundraising service offered by the credit insurance products. The Liaoning Branch has provided RMB210 million to support the policyholders in terms of domestic trade.
