Researchers expect Liu Xiang’s withdrawal from competition to bring extra-rewards to sponsors

2008-09-03 Beijing

It is generally believed that Liu Xiang’s withdrawal from the Olympic Games will lead to huge losses to his sponsors including Nike. However, according to researchers, Liu’s quit from the 110-meter hurdles may bring extra-rewards to the sponsors. Psychological studies show that people will have a deep impression on unexpected and surprising things rather than common things. As a result, Liu’s unexpected departure will definitely leave a strong impression on the public. This, combined with the wide coverage of media across the globe, virtually markets the brands of the advertisers to the whole world for free. In addition, Nike has adjusted its advertising strategy timely to cope with the incident. The combined factors are expected to bring extra-rewards to sponsors.
