US-based Valero Energy signs agreement with Chinese university

US-based Valero Energy Corp recently has been licensed by East China University of Science and Technology for gasification technology of petroleum coke. The agreement reached between the two parties signals China’s license of large-scale chemical technology package to the US for the first time.

Hongta Group Donates RMB4 Million to Nujiang-Based Middle School

Several leaders from Hongta Group recently arrived in Gongshan county, Nujiang prefecture, Yunnan province to inspect the progress of the group's poverty alleviation efforts. These leaders held discussions with local government officials on the future development of the county. They also, on behalf of the group, donated RMB4 million to a local middle school for the construction of a building.

Brilliance Auto, Nanchang Hangkong University kick off engine program

Nanchang Hangkong University and Shenyang Brilliance Jinbei Automotive (Brilliance Auto) recently kicked off a joint engine program at the automaker’s E2 engine plant, representing the first cooperation between China’s automobile and aeronautical sectors. The program will also help Brilliance Auto expand into the aeronautical industry, according to an executive at the company. As part of the program, Brilliance Auto’s independently developed 1.8T engines will be used to power airplanes, which is considered as a revolutionary experiment in China.

Zhongtong Bus wins order valued at USD64 million from Saudi Arabia-based enterprise

Shandong province-based Zhongtong Bus disclosed on May 20 that the company has signed a contract with a Saudi Arabian company operating school buses and pilgrimage vehicles about exporting 1600 buses of 6103G and 6112G types worth USD 64 million. The ordered buses will be delivered by September. The two companies have cooperated since 2005 with deals amounting to USD 2.78 million in 2005, USD 12.46 million in 2006 and USD 21.10 million in 2007.

Unilever builds hope school in Sichuan

The inauguration ceremony of Unilever Xinmiao Hope School was held yesterday in Hongya county, Sichuan province. In addition to building the new school, Unilever donated 26 computers with webcams to the school, creating a platform for the left-behind children to communicate with their parents working outside the home. There are now 23 million left-behind children in Rural China, with 6 million in Sichuan alone.

Another Unilever Hope primary school completed

Unilever’s Hope primary school in Hongya county, Sichuan province was completed on March 18 after several months of construction. The school, with an investment of RMB 250,000 from Unilever, has 12 rooms which can accommodate 100 students. At the inauguration ceremony on April 14, Unilever employees also donated RMB 14,000 to the school. Investing in building Hope primary schools is part of Unilever’s efforts to perform social responsibility.

Anhui girl receives Unilever International Schools Art Project award

The group of 22 children around the world, including a 9-years-old girl from Anhui province, China, has been selected to represent their countries in an international art exhibition shown at the awarding event of the Unilever International Schools Art Project (UISAP), which allows aspiring artists to have their work displayed at London's Tate Modern, on March 26, 2008. Unilever, one of the World’s Top 500 Enterprises, has invested approximately US$2.5 million annually since 2000 to host global children art works contests, in order to encourage young people to create original works on a given theme.

Reasonable for University to Ban Smoking Within Campus

Film “The Volunteers” premieres at Peking University

China's first film exploring the volunteering service project, “The Volunteers”, premiered at Peking University yesterday. Joint investors of the film include Amway (China) Co., Limited. Since 2002, Amway China has sponsored 340 student volunteers from 21 well-known universities to teach in these schools, where both teachers and equipment are scarce.
