Estimated sales revenue of electronic information industry tops US$14.6 billion in China's Hubei province

Statistics released by the Hubei Information Industry Department show the province’s information industry achieved estimated sales revenue of RMB 101 billion (approx. US$14.8 billion) in 2008, up 32 percent from a year earlier and becoming the fourth industry in the province to top RMB100 billion (approx. US$14.6 billion) in terms of sales revenue. In addition, the industry’s gross industrial output value is expected to top RMB110 billion (approx. US$16.1 billion), up 36 percent from a year earlier.

China’s TV direct sales market grows to RMB 7 billion in 2007

Analysys International, a leading advisor of technology, media and telecom (TMT) industries in China, recently released a report on the country’s TV shopping industry. In 2007, the scale of China's TV direct sales market reached RMB 7 billion, a year-on-year increase of 55.6%. However, the TV direct sales industry is also facing fierce competition pressure from traditional retail channels and new retail channels such as online shopping, according to the report. China's TV direct sales industry is expected to maintain continuous growth.

Producer of "Absolute Kids" confirms criticism from SARFT but says "no broadcasting ban"

A source said that the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) recently criticized "Absolute Kids", a children's show program of Zhejiang Satellite TV Station, at a regular meeting. The producer of the program confirmed yesterday that it did receive the criticism. But SARFT just asked the producer to improve the program as children in it have spoken frankly too much of the truth that can hardly accepted by the adults, and broadcast of the program has not been banned by the administration, according to the producer.

SARFT responds to complaints on sexual advertising noncompliance

Eleven complaints concerning non-compliant advertisements were received by the State Administration of Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) from 19 November to 26 November. The non-compliant advertisements include eight categories of sex related ads banned by the SARFT and ads allegedly misleading consumers. Recently, the SARFT responded to the complaints and said the non-compliant institutes will be punished by responsible agencies according to relevant laws and regulations.

Focus Media makes two acquisitions in China

As reported, Focus Media has acquired a Beijing-based game advertising agency and a Shanghai-based media advertising company. When asked about the two acquisitions, Ji Hairong, vice president of Focus Media, refused to make any comments. Actually, the company has been continually pursuing M&As since the beginning of 2007, in an effort to march into the game advertising market. Industry analysts expected that the two acquisitions will take Focus Media to a new level.
