Ctrip reports 23% increase in net income for Q1

Ctrip.com International, Ltd, a leading travel service provider for hotel accommodations, airline tickets and packaged tours in China, announced its unaudited financial results for the quarter ended March 31, 2009. Net income was RMB 121 million (US$18 million) in the first quarter of 2009, up 23 percent year on year. Net revenues were RMB 401 million (US$59 million) for the first quarter of 2009, up 18 percent year on year. Gross margin was 78 percent for the quarter, compared to 80 percent in the same period of 2008.

Solar energy sector in China’s Shandong province see high growth

The solar energy sector in China’s Shandong province recorded high growth this year, despite the financial crisis. ShanDong Sangle Solar Energy, as an example, posted a more than 50 percent of monthly increase for the first four months of 2009. On April 28, the company received orders for 41,125 solar energy water heaters from dealers throughout the country, hitting a new record in daily order once again.

Yunnan Tin speeds up expansion of emerging industries

TSMC April revenue up 58.1 pct sequentially

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC), one of the world's largest contract chipmakers, said recently that its consolidated revenue for April surged 58.1 per cent from the previous month to NT$22.45 billion (approximately US$681 million), making it the highest level since the global economic slump began taking its toll on electronics consumption. However, the company’s consolidated revenue for the first four months of this year declined 46.8 per cent year on year, to NT$62 billion (approximately US$1.9 billion). TSMC forecast that on a consolidated basis, its revenue will expand to between NT$71 billion (approximately US$2.1 billion) and NT$74 billion (approximately US$2.2 billion) in the second quarter.

China's Dalian sees rapid growth in new loans during Q1 2009

The Financial Affairs Office of Dalian, Liaoning province, recently said that the total sum of new loans granted by financial institutions in the city during the first quarter of 2009 was RMB46.5 billion (US$6.8 billion), up 27.4 percent compared to the same period of the prior year. In addition, those financial institutions signed agreements valued at RMB402 billion (US$58.9 billion) with local government and large enterprises in Dalian during the first three months of this year.

Safety of food sold in Guangxi's Chongzuo improves

The government of Chongzuo, Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, China, has enhanced its supervision over the quality and safety of food sold in the city since last year and food safety there is improving. Last year, 174 livestock and poultry farms in Chongzuo were checked carefully, but no clenbuterol-contaminated pigs were found.

Sichuan province sells 5,000 Changhong Oubaoli plasma TVs during past May Day holiday

Chengdu, Sichuan province sold 640 units of 50-inch Oubaoli plasma TVs during the past May Day holiday, sales amount accounting for approximately 80 percent of the 50-inch product lines and 30 percent of the Chonghong flat panel TVs. The Sichuan market saw sales of 5,000 Oubaoli plasma TVs during the three-day holiday, hitting a record high in recent two years.

Henan Kerry Digital benefits from continuous innovation

Spanish leading metallic silicon producer to build world’s largest metallic silicon project in Ganzi, Sichuan province

Grupo Villar Mir, a construction and fertilizer conglomerate based in Spain, and the government of Ganzi Prefecture in western China’s Sichuan province recently signed framework agreements for the metallic silicon project in Ganzi Prefecture, with total investment of 820-million-euro funded by Grupo Villar Mir. According to the agreements, Ferroatlantica, a subsidiary of Grupo Villar Mir, will build the world’s largest metallic silicon plant with an annual output of 100,000 tons of chemical grade metallic silicon. This project will be launched in September of this year and be put into full production in 2013.

Chongqing sees significant increase in imports of compounded rubber for first quarter

Chongqing, China imported 4337.6 tons of compounded rubber worth US$9.11 million during the first quarter of this year, up 25.4 percent and 8.1 percent from a year earlier, and up 115 percent and 72.7 percent from a quarter earlier, respectively. The city imported 3,528 tons of compounded rubber from Malaysia and 806 tons from Thailand during the quarter, accounting for 99.9 percent of the total import volume.
