China’s tobacco sector produced 44.398 million cases of cigarettes in 2008, a year over year increase of 3.7 percent, despite the global financial crisis. A total of 44.08 million cases of cigarettes were sold, a year over year growth of 3.16 percent. China’s leading cigarette brands, such as Hongtashan and Yuxi, became a major contributor to the increased sales.
