Haier Venture Investment overweights 300,000 shares of Qingdao Haier

Haier Venture Investment in concert with Haier Group bought 300,000 shares of Qingdao Haier on May 21, 2009, accounting for 0.02 percent of total shares. The move show Haier Venture Investment's confidence in the long-term prosperity of China's stock market and Qingdao Haier’s outlook. Haier Venture Investment also plans to purchase up to 26,470,000 shares of Qingdao Haier, or 1.98 percent of the total outstanding stock during the next 12 months.

Heilongjiang’s foreign trade market starts to warm up from March

Heilongjiang province, China’s foreign trade totaled US$1.4 billion and US$5.1 billion in April and the first four months of 2009, down 5.6 percent and 11.3 percent respectively from the same period of last year, according to data from Department of Commerce of the province. Nevertheless, the decline in monthly foreign trade has shown a downward trend since March. Noticeably, exports of mechanical and electrical products increased 30 percent to US$1 billion during the period while hi-tech product exports rose 4.6 percent to US$76 million.

China's Henan province exports tunnel jumbos for the first time

A Qinyang City, Henan province-based company recently exported four tunnel jumbos, each valued at US$200,000 and weighing 30 tons, to Pakistan, marking that the province has for the first time exported such equipment. The tunnel jumbos exported were custom built for Pakistan.

Shaanxi province, China’s foreign trade grows 30% in first quarter

Shaanxi province, China’s foreign trade totaled US$487 million in the first quarter of the year, a year-on-year growth of 34 percent. Imports increased 144 percent to US$213 million while exports declined 0.6 percent to US$274 million, according to statistics from the Department of Commerce of the province. The province’s foreign trade with Asia rose 66.6 percent during the quarter, with imports rising 508 percent year-on-year to US$128 million. In addition, the bilateral trade with Africa and Europe also increased 83 percent and 50 percent respectively from the same period of last year.

Huanggang’s exports continue to rise despite the tough economy during Q1

According to statistics from the customs office of Huanggang, in China’s Hubei province, the city’s exports exceeded US$96 million during the first quarter of this year, a year-on-year increase of 0.7 percent. Certain major producers have recorded excellent results in exports despite deteriorating demand from foreign markets and a bearish export environment. Agricultural exports showed strong growth, reaching US$2.5 million, a 59.7 percent year-on-year increase. In addition, many companies have identified new business opportunities in emerging markets including the Middle East and Africa through attending international trade fairs, while strengthening the exports to traditional destinations including Europe, America, Japan and South Korea.

China's Baoding sees decreased exports in Q1

Affected by the financial crisis, Baoding, Hebei province, China recorded a year-on-year decrease of 9.8 percent in combined imports and exports to US$814 million during the first quarter of 2009. Imports rose 75.9 percent to US$329 million, while exports fell 32.2 percent to US$485 million, this being the first decline since 1997.

China’s Fujian province reports high growth in vessel exports

According to statistics from Fuzhou Customs, during 2008, Fujian exported 1.685 million vessels worth US$1.23 billion, up 110 and 86.8 per cent year on year, respectively. Exports to the EU increased 140 per cent to US$640 million, while those to ASEAN countries rose 190 per cent to US$360 million.

Chongqing to establish export-oriented computer facility

Export of machinery and electrical products from Chengdu sees opportunity amid crisis

For the first two months of this year, Chengdu, Sichuan province, posted a 99.1 percent increase in year-on-year in exports of machinery and electrical products to US$590 million, according to a research report released by Chengdu Municipal Bureau of Commerce on April 5. The report also indicated a great potential and opportunity for the export of machinery and electrical products from the city, as a number of major players in the field are having their capacities and facilities shifted to Chengdu in order to capitalize on the relatively cheaper labor force there.
