Chongqing's port throughput rebounds strongly during April

Customs statistics show that throughput for April 2009 at ports in Chongqing, China, was US$500 million, down 9.4 percent from the same period of the prior year but up 34 percent compared with that in March 2009. The rebound was mainly driven by substantial growth in export volume and value during April 2009, with export value and volume rising 20.5 and 393.1 percent respectively.

Throughput at Fujian ports rebounds for Q1 2009

According to statistics from Ministry of Transportation of Fujian province China, coastal ports in the province have been seeing a positive trend since the beginning of 2009, with the amount of cargo passing through the ports rising 6.6 percent year-on-year to 66 million tons for the first quarter, and containerized cargo throughput increasing to 560 thousand TEUs for March, compared with 400 thousand TEUs for the previous month. Meanwhile, a direct maritime container transport line linking the southwestern United States directly with Fuzhou, Fujian province’s capital, saw its first sailing, signaling the opening of a new channel connecting overseas markets directly to Fuzhou and environs.

Guangdong port sees significant decrease in export volume of fertilizer in 2008

The Guangdong port in China delivered export volume and value of 499,000 tons and US$310 million in the fertilizer sector for 2008, down 47.5 per cent and up 10.1 per cent from a year earlier, respectively. The significant decrease in export volume was mainly due to the weak demand in international markets and significantly decreased profits in the sector.

Dalian Port Corporation sets new high in throughput

For January 2009, Dalian Port Corporation recorded goods throughput of 16,784,000 tons, up 905,000 tons, or 5.7 percent year on year, setting a new high in the same period ever, despite the global financial crisis. The growth was mainly attributable to increases in throughput of oil and ores. Throughput of steel products, grain and coal, however, decreased at the port in January.

Tianjin Port's alumina imports down for 2008

Statistics from Tianjin Customs show Tianjin Port imported 166,000 tons of alumina in 2008, with a value of US$67.3 million, down 1.6 percent and 18.7 percent respectively from a year earlier. The declining imports can be mainly attributed to the continuous capacity expansion, decreased market demand and price, as well as additional adverse effects arising from the global financial crisis.

Xinjiang’s Alashankou port hits new high in exports

As of the end of December 2008, exports and imports via the Alashankou port in Xinjiang totaled 18,983,166 tons, up 11.4 percent year on year, hitting a new high. During 2008, goods imported from the port mainly included metal ores, oil, steel, chemical products and fertilizers, while exported goods mainly included construction materials, industrial machines, coke, cement and containers.

Ports in Hebei achieve rapid throughput growth since China’s reform and opening up

The Ports in north China's Hebei province, witnessed a throughput of 399 million tons in 2007, up 374 million tons from 1978, when the reform and opening-up started in the country. In 2008, ports located in the province are expected to achieve a cargo throughput of 430 million tons.

Shanghai posts strong sales results for newly built building in January 4, 2009

The latest online statistics show Shanghai posted sales of newly built building amounting to 54,700 square meters in January 4, 2009, nearly doubled the average daily sales of 27,300 square meters recorded in December 2008. The average selling price stood at RMB 12,779 (approx. US$ 1870) per square meter. According to analysts, the growth in transaction volumes can be mainly attributable to the new mortgage policies put in place by the Chinese government and promotion activities by housing developers.
